Argentina's Wine Motherland
TINTO HISTORICO brings us back to a time at the beginning of the 20th Century when blends dominated the Argentine wine table. Domingo Vicente Catena was famous in the 1930's for his TINTO BUENOS AIRES, the red blend that he sold in the famous restaurants of Buenos Aires, the "Paris of South America."
The most classic of Domingo's blends was made of Malbec and Verdot (the local name for Petit Verdot), and it was known for its rich aromatics and luxurious finish. At the time, many of Mendoza's vineyards were planted with a field blend of Malbec and Verdot which was called La Francesa.
A historic Argentine wine family since 1902, the Catenas have sought special sites to plant vines in the winemaking provinces of Argentina, which line the Andes Mountains from North to South.
